Japanese claims to be a new rising star in fashion However, it owns a unique positon in the entire fashion industry. Bell Kawakubo and Issey Miyake are also very famous and favorable in top fashion in Europe. In Japan, jewelry doesn’t enjoy the same high status as fashion but the Japanese jewelry still has deeply local characteristics.
These Japanese jewelry brands strongly promoted in China are all recommending its pearl products with great efforts. If we can think carefully, we will find that it is the Japanese who saved the pearl. Pearl has always been regarded as the tears of sea and two centuries ago in the Gulf of Mexico area many people often picked pearls into the sea without any diving equipments. Later, because of the oil industry many mothers of pearl were dead. As a result, natural pearl production was drastically reduced.
Japanese saved the pearl because that they successfully invented a method of artificial cultivation of pearls. Mr. Kokichi Mikimoto, the founder of Japanese jewelry brand created the modern history of pearl jewelry in 1893. This Japanese discovered that the parasite would continue to secrete things if it met sands or other insects. Then he put round things into mothers of pearl to make it secrete things again and again, forming the first man-made pearl.
Today most of the pears in the market are cultured pearls and natural pearls are sold as antiques already with extraordinarily high prices. Fortunately, if we just wear them, there is no difference between them considering their appearances. But if they are placed under X-ray, we can easily tell the difference. However, compared to the expensive natural pearl, cultured pearl’s prices are closer to us and it matches the environment and nature that Japanese has always respected.
